wiltshire_boy
Hello everybody, Just starting to get back into trials (well, i've just bought an old bike) and came across your lovely site. I used to compete in schoolboy trials until i was 15 and now *ahem* 20 years later i've realised what i've been missing. Although it's a bit painful not having Dad pay for it anymore! I live in Devizes in Wiltshire so would welcome any local information about clubs and practice grounds in this area in fact any hints and tips at all. Thanks in advance, Roy. wiltshire_boy
Hi James, I'm running on a bit of a budget at the moment so have bought an old (1994) Aprilia Climber 270. The thinking is that if i do a few trials and decide that i'm not cut out for it anymore then i won't have lost too much money - and if i do love it then i'll be looking for something a bit newer soon. My last bike was a Fantic 200 twinshock in 1985 - it was when the first single shockers were released and a Yamaha TY250 mono was virtually unbeatable against the twinshocks. It looks like things have moved on a bit since then! What are you riding? I used to compete nationally and did a fair few trials down your way. Roy. wiltshire_boy
Hi, Um, trying to remember now,... i learnt to ride when iwas 6 on a Honda C90 that Dad had chopped about so that i could touch the ground, then an SS50 that was also adapted a bit, then a TY80 then a Whitehawk TY80, then a Fantic 50 followed by a Fantic 125 lightweight (125 in a 50 frame) and the last trials bike i had was a Fantic 200. At some point i was asked by Bob Golner to help him develop a trials bike from a Yamaha DT80 trail bike (a Cheetah?) and rode that for a while as well. I "retired" from trials when i was 16 because the new monoshocks that were winning everything were too dear and then i discovered beer and girls. Should have stuck to the bikes really! Dad had a few pre 65ers in his time and i used to have a bash on those when he wasn't feeling up to it. Tiger cubs, Greeves, C15 etc. Yes, i bought the Aprilia Climber that was on Ebay, though having looked at it i'm pretty sure it's the 240 not the 280 or 270 he advertised it as. I had a proper poke around today and it all seems to be OK but could do with a new chain and sprockets i reckon. Feels strange getting back on a bike after 20 odd years but i can't wait to get back into it now. See you all out there sometime? Roy. lewis_gasgas
Well im only 16 mate but i think ill do both , beer and girls AND bikes , i m already on my 3rd bike , my 1st one was a Beta Air cooled about 1988 i think (red), at the beggining of last year. Then i went on to getting a White Gas Gas 1989 still air cooled but like the last one of air cooled they made, with discs at least. In the Same year. Then this year when i turned 16 i was alowed to spend a lot more money and get a gas gas 1998 water cooled Which is an aweosome bike. And in the summer or after the summer im hoping to get a 2003/4 Pro. but ill really have to work for that.
