trialsoldtimer
I gave Talon a call today and they couldn't find it in their latest catalogue, do you know if this was a special, do you have a product id for sproket? The reference number is TG 452 (can`t remember if this includes number of teeth but Talon will know.) This is for a GB gearbox , not a Gp as you have described. ( do you mean CP or GB ?) wallo
Thanks all, sprocket from Talon ordered, plus a special being made for 19 tooth. By the way a very helpful company to deal with.
pitley
Anyone know the correct GB gearbox model number to use in an ariel build? Sold my last ariel about 9 years ago, but im pretty sure it was a GB 26 gearbox ?? Cheers in advance
trickymicky
The original one was a GB47,but your unlikely to get one of those. Ariel NH 350 road bike had a GB39,and the VH 500 a GB40. Mainshaft lengths are different and its the shorter one you need. Middle and outer casings from an AJS/Matchless GB gearbox are needed,-This box has the shortest mainshaft of the lot,but it is too short for an HT. The Ariel layshaft needs the speedo drive worm removing before it can be used with the AJS/Matchless covers. The GB26 is likely to have related to the AJS middle cover used on your last one. pitley
Thanks Mick. Had the chance of a GB 39 friday but was unsure, now i am. So the main case is a standard piece with interchangeable middle and end casings.
trickymicky
The GB39 box may have the correct mainshft too. To be sure, you could pm John Bartram, the Ariel framebuilder (Ariel_HT5_John) on here. He may know as he has just built an Ariel for someone.

ariel_ht5_john
The mainshaft i use is from the Ariel singles i extend the thread that holds the clutch on and trim to required length. The AJS i find is too short. I think the longer main shafts you find are from the Ariel twins and the square 4 ? Regards John
pitley
Thanks john. The gearbox i spoke of above still has my name on it, so hopefully it should have the correct mainshaft, just on the lookout now for ajs/matchless middle and outer casings. trickymicky
There were two inner casings at Cheltenham yesterday, but no outer,or i would have picked them up.
