Alwinton 2 Day Trial 2012

Recommended Posts

Last year Bedlington Motor Club ran the first Alwinton two day trial.

Dates have recently been agreed by the North East Centre and this year the trial will take place on the 8th and 9th September.

Last years event was enjoyed by many and consisted of three laps of 15 sections on the saturday and two laps of twenty sections on the sunday, all entirely off road.

Members of the club have recently been back to the venue and found another 5 brand new sections, there are probabaly more.

Discussions have also commenced with the Forestry Commission who have expressed interest in allowing the trial to use part of the neighbouring forest. The club are yet to get into the forest to see whats there but we are now working on the basis of 2 laps 20 sections each day and possibly a single lap sunday if we have enough observers and sections. The use of the forest may allow us to take out the difficult descent which was part of the course last year and proved difficult for some competitiors.

Accomodation in the area includes a hotel and a number of B&Bs within a mile of the start. In addition an adjacent farm has promised to allow us to use a field for camping and caravans following some unsatisfactory experience for some competitors last year with the local camp site. If there is enough demand we will look into a water supply and an arrangement with the hotel for the use of toilets or the hire of a toilet block.

Regulations and accomodation lists for the area will be issued shortly and will be in the TC calender and on the bedlington motor club website.

If you dont know the area take a look at the photos on the Bedlington Motor Club facebook page, if you have never been to the area get the dates in your diary now, you will be more than welcome !

Further updates will be posted to this thread in due course.

Entry forms are now available and will shortly be on the Trials Central Calender, Bedlington Motor Club Facebook page and Bedlington Motor Club Website

http://www.bedlingtonmotorclub.co.uk

I have visited the venue last weekend and we now have a further 10 sections on the existing land compared to last year. We are due to have a look around the adjoining forest at the end of May ( most of the club members are in either SSDT or Pre 65 SSDT mode at present !) but as it stands we have sufficient sections for two laps of 20 different sections each day.

Once the weather improves we will provide some pics of the new stuff.

If you search TC archives for Alwinton you will find the results from last year with photos by Ray Crinson which will provide a good insight into the quality of the location.

Hope to hear form you soon !

Just a brief update following yesterdays visit to Alwinton

We had a look round the adjoining forest we are hoping to use for the first time on foot and you could run a ten section club trial in there. We took Carlsberg (the farmer who owns the land the trial runs on) to look at the area with us and he will liase with the forest manager so we can all meet up the week after next and hopefully gain agreement.

Yesterday we showed Carlsberg where we would like to go this year and our revised route is acceptable and will make it much easier for the easy course riders to get round the course regardless of getting access to the forest.

We then went to see the new hotel owner as it has recently changed ownership. Bedlington Motor Club will be providing an evening meal for people observing at the trial and this was agreed yesterday with the hotel. In addition there is a music festival on that weekend but the hotel are happy to accomodate the trial as well and it should make for a really good night now we have entertainment.

Twenty observers for two days may take some finding so i'd really appreciate anybody offering to observe, particulaly with a bike. We have therefore agreed to set up a practice area so anybody bringing a bike to observe can practice after the trial on the saturday if they wish and we are going to try and get an approved trainer to provide some tuition.

Once we have approval confirmed from the forest i'll post some pictures and further details

The hotel is Clennell Hall, it has a website and the phone number is 01669650377

We have also agreed that people can camp near the hotel and use the facilities.

Cheers

Access to the forest has now been approved by the forest manager, I'll post some photos up when I get them downloaded from my phone.

The trial will now definately be two laps 20 sections each day, next things to sort are the observers and making more course flags for the extended route.

Its looking good but some more entries would be nice....

Just a quick update

Spoke to the hotel manager and the hotel are providing a prize for the overall winner the trial. The winner will get a a voucher for Dinner Bed and Breakfast for two which can be used when they wish.

As this means that the winner of the prize can only come from the expert route the club are also purchasing two vouchers for Bed and Breakfast for two people at the hotel which will be given as spot prizes, one for the esy route and one for the middle course.

The hotel is Clennell Hall, it has a website and the phone number is 01669650377

I'll be up there all day sunday sorting out the saturday route and will report back next week.

Hands up if you think organising a trial is easy ?? :wall:

We had access to the next door forest approved informally a couple of months ago. We still have access to the forest but we cant use anything determined by the forestry commision to be a water course so that ruled out 7 of the planned sections for sunday ! So paid a visit a fortnight ago to see what else we can find in the forest but in the time we have left decided just to use the forest access to link different bits of land and go for plan B.

Plan B was to approach the other farmers in the area and see if we could use some of their land to extend the course. We got a very positive response so now have three farmers on board plus potentially another for next year. Must say a big thanks to Seaton Delaval club who have allowed us to use their course to get across to the new farmers land.

I have been up today to put some sections in mainly the dry rocky sections and scree as I had my 6 year old apprentice with me and I didnt fancy us getting wet in the rivers. Some photos are on my facebook page but i'll put some links up later.

I think this year will be cracking, its a further round on both days and will be 2 laps of 20 good sections which will be a full days entertainment. The easy course will miss 2 or 3 sections each day as some gullies are just too diificult for an easy course rider to enjoy.

Sunday we'll be getting through best part of a tank of juice each lap so if your coming bring plenty petrol.

We have some observers but could do with some more especially with bikes.
