bigplonker
Recently bought a 2004 315 which came with an owners' manual which recommends a petrol/oil mixture of 80 to 1. So I then set about searching for the appropriate oil. The H&D Racing website (Montesa specialists) recommends Castrol A747 which I understand smells slightly of castor oil (yummy!). But when I researched further I discovered that this oil is only recommended for mixes of up to 40 to 1 (nowhere near the 80 to 1 that Montesa recommends). Then tried my fave trials bike shop and they recommended Castrol Power 1 Racing oil. Bought some and was just about to mix it with the petrol when I read in the small print on the back of the bottle that it's apparently only suitable for mixes of up to 50 to 1. So..., should I chance mixing it at 80 to 1 or should I bin it and buy some other oil? HELP! All advice gratefully received.
philclelland
Hi there i have had a 2004 315 for four years now and i have used Putoline MX7 in it since i bought it. I can honestly say the bike has never ever missed a beat it runs like a sowing machine. I use a syringe to measure out the oil as you need to measure out 62.5 cc. Hope this is info is of help to you Phil
bigplonker
Thanks Phil. I'll attempt to get get hold of some Putoline MX7 - could be tricky out here in the middle of France, but fingers crossed!
philclelland
I get mine on ebay, so you should be able to get someone to ship to France. Good luck!
marky boy
Just a note to say that we have run castrol 747 at 80-1 for over ten years, never a single problem

copemech
You will not find reccos from the oil producers for running at the 80:1 ratio(trials specific) as race bikes at high rpm's do not run that mix. Trials is different unless you plan upon running down the road.
bigplonker
Thanks chaps. So..., that's one vote for Putoline MX7, one vote for Castrol A747, one vote against Castrol A747 and one person saying that no oil manufacturer will recommended an 80 to 1 mix of their product. Think I might toss a coin!
highscore
I use rock oil synthetic premix at 80:1, freely available as all the mx'ers use it. Runs and smells great!!

bigplonker
Thanks again chaps. Did a bit of research and that strawberry iPone stuff certainly seems to fit the 80:1 bill. And it's French so it should be easy to find a supplier out here in France - famous last words!
smiffy
Try feuvert,or even carrefour,i use their own brand of oil and its been good in the 315r for two years. In your local town there should be a Motoculture place that might do it. Bien cordialment Andy.
