Hi Chris

Photos are a great help.

Do you know the tube diameter at the silencer end of the tapered outlet.

I am about to fabricate the tail pipe.

Kind regards

Martin

Hi Martin

This is the rather sorry looking mk1 exhaust that I have got. As you can see, the tail pipe has been bent and the inlet cut to angle it outwards. The inlet side is 48mm in diameter (outside edge to outside edge). I have tried to show what the inside looks like as well. After the inlet, there is a chamber before the tube that runs down the middle. Hope this helps.

Here is the evolution of my 247T - the original seat and tank are prettier but this 78 version is more comfortable for the trail/trials riding that I do. This is my bike after a wash down following a ride through my local neighbours paddocks ... cow pats really are sticky buggers ;(

Hi Chris

Your photos are a great help.

I have spent 4 hours today opening the silencer (muffler) and re-fabricating the rear part and tail pipe.

When I opened it up i could have cried!

No wonder it was noisy, all the 3mm holes in the baffle tube were blocked up with carbon!

I suppose 40years takes it's toll!

Anyway all drilled out cleaned up and ready for packing.

Hopefully all the dirty work out the way.

Thank you all, as the photos and info allowed me to scale the fabrications.

Kind regards.

Martin

I see today a 247T serial number only 3 higher than mine listed on eBay in Oz ...sooo tempted

It looks to be a very nice original bike, and I have never seen the speedo/rev counter set before. Go for it!

Sold for $1200 ... which is about half what mine owes me. A Bultaco of similar condition and originality would have done much better and yet the Cota in competition was very comparable. Not to mention that the 247T can still be road registered today in Australia .. and that is not easy for most dirt bikes
