Mark Has your wife being talking about me again? If a man is a king, and a king is a ruler, and a ruler is 12 inches I guess that makes me a king!

I guess that Is why your wife calls me "king Billy" :chairfall: WAIT....... I am a catholic I cant be king Billy (that comment will go right over Mark's head).........

I used to always have my bar rotated forward but i found that if my bar was rotated too far forward i had difficulty then doing a camber downhill turn as the front wheel wanted to grab the terrain and i had to use much more effort to fight to keep in control as i was stretching my arms/fingers too much. I now keep my bar almost vertical, maybe a smidgen forward, and i have much more control and less arm pump too!

cheers

we come from the south midland centre where we all used to take 20mm off the overall width to get between trees, helped, so sure it will make no difference if you feel more comfortable go for it.

Les Winthrop, many times Scottish Trials champion always cut his bars shorter when asked why he said that when riding on rocks and your bars are moving all over the place! by having the bars shorter makes your shoulders move less, hence keeping your body more balanced?

When you think about it he probably had a point, but I doubt it would of helped me?

Strange really when you think about it how did we arrive at the current width of Renthals then?

Personally i've no idea. I know the bend changed in line with some of the top riders preferences but how did we arrive at the current std width?

That is indeed a good question! Think I stated the Renthals were indeed a bit wider than the stock Sherco bars, now that was the old ones with crossbar, not sure about the fatbars. Seems they were mostly patterned by the Lampkin or Kuriama bends with bit of difference in the sweep back, but wonder if that was indeed their preferred width? Maybe someone should ask Dougie!

The reason bars are made a bit wider than the average person likes is because they want to sell as many as possible. If they made them to suit the average rider, then people like me (with long arms) would need to buy something else. You can easily shorten bars but lengthening is not as easy
