benji321
Hi Bought a new Sherco a few months ago and just recently noticed oil leaking from the crankcase seals, then to find out the casing has a weak point which bends and causes the seals to leak Anyone else had an issue with this? Cheers

Cheers Seals, what seals you on about? Did you drive the bashplate up into the clutch cover or what? They can be straightened with a bit of gentile persuasion. benji321
Its the O-ring and Gasket either side of the crankcase. We have been told that its a casting issue and we should fix it by bending it back, but its surely just going to bend back with use. Just wondered if anyone else has seen this. copemech
Yes. This is commonly achieved by aggressivly bashing the bike into rock ledges on the plate as compared to the tires. If nothing changes here, I would imagine you may experience the same in the future and eventually have to replace the side cover at least as I am not sure just how many times they will tolerate a straightning without cracking. neo
Hey Cope, Could you explain to me which "O-ring and Gasket either side of the crankcase... that needs bending back" we are talking about here? All the best. Neo
copemech
Hey Cope, Could you explain to me which "O-ring and Gasket either side of the crankcase... that needs bending back" we are talking about here? All the best. Neo I am not sure really. I have seen an instance where the main clutch side cover had been distorted enough to leak at the gasket to the main case. I suppose it could be possible to damage one badly enough that both the gasket and the o-ring on the outer cover could leak, as the thing is mayby an inch or so wide in that area. In the event it is totally distorted, it may not be repairable. Pretty thin and about 3mm thick and an inch wide at that point. Rider of the one I seen launches it unmurcifully at rock ledges, so go figure!
