I need some info on starting techniques. Are there any tips to imrove starting ratio and reduce kicks and frustration? My Evo you only had to press on the kickstart and she was away. If my feet are on the floor I cannot get it started hot or cold. I have to put it on the stand or pitch next to a tree to give a big kick off the pegs. then it can be anything up to 6 kicks. Or is there anything else that can be done to aid my ability to get it started?

Use the kickstart to prod the engine round so as to get the maximum effective stroke before you kick. Engage the kickstart with your foot, don't kick at it. One swift and even kick all the way down should do it. It's a knack. Feel the compression under your foot before starting to kick. It is easier if you are up on the footrests. Try to learn to climb up on them balancing and then kick.

The Ossa kick start feels very similar to me and I think the same guy designed both engines. Shercos and Betas seem to me to have a different slightly more direct type of engine/kickstart engagement but someone here will know the technical details if that's the case.

the gasser kickstart is on the other side as opposed to your beta and its longer so if you have short legs is a pain. Im 6 foot and always stand up on the bike if im kicking it from cold. My rev 3 i kicked over easily with my feet on the floor.

i had a little trouble with my Gas Gas when i first bought it.

it took a little practise and a few tips from fellow Gas Gas riders but now ive got the knack i can start it no problems.

i dont even use the choke on mine anymore.

i get mine to tdc, then rest my foot on the kickstart taking up the inch or so of play, then i buckle my left leg at the knee, dropping my whole body weight down on the kick start. i.e. not using your leg to kick the bike over
