samd2
hi all. only just got in to trails riding so i purchased a reasonably priced 96 techno 250, great bike and was having a lot of fun on her untill she just stopped, changed plug and looked for spark. no spark. I know what your all thinking. stator. I first checked all wiring both visually and with a meter. all checked out fine. tested stator a bit low so i sent it off to wcw who said it was shot and rewound, refitted and all seemed well for about an hour then nothing just stopped. oh how i wished it was fuel starvation but i just knew it was something else so checked for spark nudder. took everything apart again all looked fine, tested coil/ht lead on friends bike, good spark. in my thinking its got to be a loose/knackered wire or could it be the cdi unit. just seems a bit strange that she'll run for an hour or two then just stop. have also checked kill switch, cuts out with this disconnected. i've not checked auxillary wiring to fan/thermostat could this be the cause? sorry to ramble on but this is starting to really do my swede in and any help would be appreciated. cheers sam. ps. please dont suggest buying a montesa. samd2
unfortunately my mates bike is a tzr 250. i just tried the coil to see if there was a spark. i've now tested all the wiring and reckon my headache is the cdi. does anyone know how to test the cdi with out swapping for a known working one. any suggestions will be greatly received. samd2
update. thought it may be ht coil, replaced with new and still no go go. fires up but only runs for a minute which is getting worse, she would run for about an hour then give up. so i suspect something is breaking down due to heat tempted to cut open the cdi and have a look dont known what im looking for but the way i see it ive got nothing to lose because i think a new cdi is in order just hope its not the regulator. why oh why do the electrics have to have ducati stamped on them, doesn't fill me with confidence.
