colin13846
Just registered with triials central. Complete trials beginner. I have visited two trials recently, Lancs one near Wray and today near Sedburgh which was a classic event. Where do I start? I have some off road experiance riding a Yam TTR250 with local TRF club but I am no expert. I guess I first need to join either Westmoreland or Lanc MCC. Then a bike! fairly confused on which one- modern or twinshock? I think no bigger than 250 2 or 4 stroke?. At todays classic the Yam TY 175 or 250 seemed a possible choice but should I be going for a more modern machine? I am a 50 years young so I need to make a sensible/correct choice! abn70
Hi Colin, I'm a newbie too and only 49 years young. Registered today for advice on the first bike I bought less than a year ago.... went for a cheapie which has ended up a money pit, and then bought a 250 gas gas and I am totally addicted and so pleased with my mid life crissis! Looking back on the last 10 months I should have spent £1500 on a 250 2 stroke... that's only my opinion after 10 months and I'm more than happy with the gas gas but £1500-£2000 gets you a nice bike... good luck
2stroke4stroke
I would go for a modern bike as they are lighter and, take it from me, have a riding position and suspension better suited to old backs! If you can find a decent Beta 200 that would be a good basis for you to judge things. Many will say a125 but the 200 is easier to ride as it has better bottom end characteristics. breagh
Modern bike all the way. Best thing is they have brakes that work. It's enough bother learning the basics without worrying about the bike.. Personally I would go for an sy250 Scorp with Betas being my second choice if I was buying an older bike. Dont see many old Gas Gas's or Sherco's in our area.
colin13846
Thanks for all the advice so far. After visiting a few more local trials and chatting to people I am going to take the advice given on this forum i.e. a Scorpa SY or Beta 200 as a choice of trials bike. So my next challange is to source a good condition one of above bikes, any ideas anyone?.
