Which Way Up Should The Rear Shock Be?

I've just been having a nosey through the parts list and noticed that the picture of the rear shock shows the exposed part of the piston shaft at the top with the spring preload adjusters at the bottom.

Now I know it's just a picture but it got me thinking is it pictured the way it should be on the bike? Because mine is the other way round...

Or does it not matter?

The purpose of the Rod side down on a gas filled shock is for the purpose of less un-sprung weight to the rear wheel and swingarm. Hope that helps.

Absolutely no help whatsoever haha

Is mine gas filled as standard??

I appreciate the input btw
