Knee Protection

Hello chaps, I'm new to trials and in need of some knee protection.

I have quite bad knees for a 21 year old due to previous sports injuries  . My question is what kind of knee protection do you think would be suitable, i was thinking moto-cross style trousers with built in knee pads, or just to have trials style trousers but with actual knee pads on top. As i said i'm very new to trials and are still to compete so have little knowledge on to what other riders use. I don't want to go overkill with the pads and loose flexibility, but then again i want to protect them.

Any help/links/tips would be greatly appreciated

Years of Basketball took its toll on my knees and I really struggle without extra protection. I use http://www.mcdavid.eu/products/sportsprotection/Indoor-Sports/602/Flexy-knee-pad with Jitsie trials pants. They still give good movement with a reasonable level of bump protection but most important for me is that they keep the heat in my old knees.

I use an old pair of acerbis light weight shin/knee guards under Mx pants. I realise they must be old as they are no longer in the catalogue but they have some similar.

Acerbis Profile Knee Guards

Ref Number: 9924

I would at least recommend some hard plastic protection.

Have a look at Dirtbikexpress

I use the 661 soft knee and elbow pads. They are like the flexy pads mentioned, but use the high tech d3o padding in them. d30 is a cool compound, which hardens instantly on impact, and then softens after the impact is over. Came from military tech. Extremely comfortable, not bulky and great protection. Not cheap though!
