naichuff
Hi Ros If it is a Greeves frame it is a Pathfinder as they did not have the alloy front beam These were made circa 68/69 when Villiers stopped supplies off engines Greeves used 175cc 6 speed Puch motor If you have the frame number the Greeves Owners club or Vmcc marque specialist may help Ian
b40rt
Thanks Ian, were they any good ? Ross
eugheugh
Greeves did an enduro version of the Pathfinder for which the engine characteristics were far better suited to, than for trials. I had a trials Pathfinder in 1979 and found it reasonably lightweight but fell far short of 'modern' trials bikes such the TY175 that I bought to replace the Greeves. My advise would be to put a DT175 engine in there.
naichuff
They were trying to compete against the Spainish bikes but the power output off the engine was not right . Six of them ended up being used as ice racer at Murryfield ice rink
2stroke4stroke
Is that the ex Harry Lawson frame Ross? It did not dawn on me 'til now but you will be just too young to remember the Pathfinder in trials but thought you might have been at the ice racing as nobbut a lad. Were they any good? Well, bear in mind it's a 175 so could be expected to be a crawler on the road. When Wrighty asked Mick Wilkinson what his favourite trials bike was he said it was the Pathfinder. Further enquiry on such an unusual choice brought forth the reply, "Well, it would do 90 mph". That should tell you how good it was in the sections. b40rt
Thanks for all the answers, the frame is quite light and well made, I'e find a use for it. Yes Pete, I got it from Harry a few years ago. Ross
