Ok fair comment, but to me they just look out of control, hanging on by the skin of there teeth and when they do get to end of section i think to myself was that skill or luck.

Of course it's skill, and whats more its a real sporting skill, If you can't reconise that then there is no hope. Physical sport should always be about reacting to different circumstances, it brings out natural talent.

Stopping and bouncing, although very skillfull is much more of a (hate to use the term) circus type skill

I went to 1 round of the BTC last year and thought it was fantastic, one of the best trials i have ever watched. yet it didn't go down well at all with some people. When watching the best in any sport i want to be left gob smacked wondering how the hell they did that. People jump out of airplanes week in week out and no one gives a s***e, Felix Baumgartner jumps out of a balloon 24 miles up and millions watch it. ordinary people doing the extraordinary is what capture peoples imagination.

That couldnt have been addingham then?

I cant wait for the uem to decide which way they will go?

If they stay stop allowed the saturday will be one set of rules for uem then sunday no stop, interesting at some events.

I just hope this is an experiment with strict guidelines and proper enforcement as what went wrong way back when (80's?) was "the spainish 3".

If its measureable as whether its a success or not needs to be clearly marked out then at the end of the year we can see if its worked or not.

A major part of the problem is that those behind Trials - The manufacturers, the importers, the FIM, the ACU and a large majority of riders cannot appreicate that the sport has evolved. They remember the sport in it's heydey with rose tinted glasses - massive crowds at events, Kickstart being compulsive viewing etc etc. Today's generation are brought up on X-Games and extreme sports. Trials might have been an extreme sport in it's day, but it isn't any longer and no amount of wishing is going to bring that back. The youth of today are the future of the sport and they want to emulate their heroes. Whether that's Toni Bou on a Montesa or Danny Mac on a Cycle Trials bike it's all about the stop and hop. That's just the way it is. The top guys do it so that's what the kids want to do. To say they can't do that... well they'll just bugger off and do something else instead.

Well said Andy, could not have said it better myself,my son is 10yrs old and does trials,he also has a trials push bike & all he wants to do is the trick riding,if people want no stop then do twinshock or have a word with there club ,but to introduce it at national & international level is like jumping out of a plane without a parachute.

It's literally like the FIM have exactly copied the ACU

I would'nt mind betting the ACU was asked by the FIM/Manufacturers to be the test bed to run a BTC non stop in 2012.

However i actually think the ACU have got it right in 2013 having a stop and non stop BTC, someone has finaly relised trials has 2 diffrent type of followers.

Personaly i think the FIM should have gone straight on to what the ACU have done for 2013 and have 2 diffrent types of championship.

Should have had a stop WTC and a Non stop European championship, the Non stop european championship don't need to be glitzy or expensive to put on.

yes really boring

In your opinion, better than the circus dancing you advocate, to me

We differ, that's all !!

I bet if you asked the top riders whether they enjoyed the Scott or SSDT or a round of the WTC better, I wonder what event they would choose as their favourite

Well judging by the comments on Facebook & Twitter i would say WTC with stop allowed, agree with you we all differ but the majority are in favour of stop allowed, not that it will make any difference to the ACU or FIM.

is it just me that likes both.

i like to watch somebody tear up a banking or river with out stopping but also like to watch jumps and wheelies with some hopping and bopping.

its all impressive as far as im concerned.

The problem with our sport is it doesn't appeal to Joe public because the bikes are too specialised, people are inspired when they see something dynamic and skilful providing they can relate to it. If the bikes were more normal looking, like an Ossa Explorer or Gas Gas Randonne, they may think what the top boys could do with a normal(ish) looking motorcycle is genuinely amazing and be fascinated by it. This, coupled with people buying trail orientated motorcycles for commuting/trail riding will ultimately bring the cost of the sport down as the bikes are again multipurpose, like they were when trials was at it's peak in the seventies! The FIM has to have a total rethink of where the sport is going and homologate a motorcycle that has a taller seat height, fully functioning lights etc, that can be used by people outside of the sport as well as followers of the sport who don't ride anymore but still feel that they want to be a part of the trials community and go to spectate a trial on their Ossa Explorer! Just messing around with stop or no stop will not save the sport from going into decline.

Have you got a FB link?

No,only heard on messages from some of the top riders,Most of the top riders will not express there opinion publicly for fear of upsetting there sponsors who will be the manufactures or importers who are in favour of no stop.
