basher
i have just replaced the seals and ive read that i need to leave the spring out and fill it up to 160mm air gap. but how can i do this as to put the bottom bolt back in to fill it up i need to put the spring in. hopefully if anyone can help ill get it sorted and be able to ride tomorow. cheers andy
cursed
I allways thought air gap was measured with everything in, INCLUDING the amount the top cap pretrudes into the fork. E.g. If the top cap screws in by 30mm, and you need a 160 air gap, you leave 190mm to the top of the fork stantion. Could be wrong though, I'm sure someone will come and clear it up. richt
There should be a drawing in the owners manual. It is 160mm from the top of the stantion fully compressed with the damper rod fully down and no spring. It sounds like you have just taken the bolt out the bottom and removed the lower fork. If this is what you've done then you need to reasemble them and then take the top caps off to refill with oil.
