Regrettably I sold a 2005 4rt last year to go back to 2t, now I miss it like mad..

What I would like to know is what are the advantages of going for a later bike other than the obvious - less wear and tear.

Later bikes are more expensive but what were the gains, better forks, more power, stronger brakes??

Were there any years that had issues?

Regards

Nick.

Nick, I can't really help you with your query as I've only ridden a 2006... before and after it was heavily modified by its owner. I liked the PTB on the Leaia program but I didn't like it when it was fitted with a 280 kit and jacked up delta plates on the rear suspension...it's horses for courses. The reason for this reply is to ask you to elaborate on what you miss/ prefer about your Mont compared to your current steed?

Cheers,

Wayne

Hi Wayne, the Monty power was more to my liking - loads of torque right the way through the rev range. The new stead is a Gas Gas 300 and although I absolutely love the thing in the dry, as soon as I get in the mud it stops dead (we have a lot of mud down here) rolling on and off the throttle to find grip is alien to me, I find when it does get grip it all gets too quick and I end up shutting off just to get it back under control.

I spent a deal of cash when I first got it adding a flywheel weight and slow action throttle to give it more bottom end just to make it more like the Monty.

The only down side of the Montesa for me was the center of gravity, I found it would tip me over the bars if I dropped down a steep bank, where as the gasser doesn't!

Regards

Nick.

Also they changed the throttle body mapping after 09 and the newer bikes, I think from 2011 on wards got the lighter wheels.

2012 models got the lighter rear wheel. Any 4rt with a decent PTB map and gearing is a good ride, get your bike setup well and you'll love it :0). The 2009 model and newer had new fork adjustment, new map and new quieter silencer.

I had a 2006 4RT loved it, traded in for a 2009 4RT loved that more! Its an easier ride than the 2006. I kept the 09 and bought a 280 Gasser as I thought I was missing out or maybe at a disadvantage. I,ve just sold the Gasser and I'm so glad I kept the Mont. I would buy another 4RT tommorrow if there was a new model. The only advantage the Gasser had was in tight dry sections where you need to hop about. We don't get that much dry weather here and it looks like hopping about is now just for rabbits. Save up and get an 09 onwards....

I know this is a little off piste but are the Beta 300 4T comparable to the 4RT - so much cheaper!

Good bike, But ;0)............... There's a reason why there a lot cheaper. Horses for courses though, you may hate one and love the other, it would be boring if we all liked the same thing.
