If you let off the throttle at all the bike would die took it home pulled the reed block out and the reeds were toast ordered new reeds waited three weeks for the wrong ones to show up two more weeks for the right ones to get here put it all back together and go to fire it up and it revs to the moon took it apart again and used hondabond on the gaskets carefully put it back together fired it up and same thing happens I'm going nuts all i want to do is go riding cant for the life of me see whats wrong any ideas ? dombush Posted December 26, 2012 Report Share Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) Hi various thoughts on this one. To acheive the degree of revving that you describe must involve a BIG air leak. Check the obvious things once more, reed valve assembled correctly, carb properly located in the inlet manifold. If its possible, take the subframe and/or airbox off to look down the carb throat and visualy ensure that the slide is coming all of the way down. On some carbs it is possible to fit the slide into the carb the wrong way round. The effect of this is that the slide doesnt go the whole way down but sounds like it's "bottoming" because you hear a clunk. The main clue to this is the fact that there will be a lot more throttle cable play than usual. Are you absolutely sure that the slide is coming all the way down and hitting the tickover adjustment screw. There are at least two places where the "male" throttle outer cable could be "not fully home" in their "female" locations. The ones that come to mind are at the top of the carb and at the throttle tube / pulley location. When your bike originaly started running badly there may have been two faults in play. A bike will run (albeit badly) with damaged reed valve so although unlikely, there may have been an air leak as well. The particular air leak that would fit is a damaged crank seal (flywheel side). like i said... just some thoughts. what7u Posted December 26, 2012 Author Report Share Posted December 26, 2012 i went out and double checked and there is a small gap under the slide (less then 1/8 of a inch) so im assuming thats at bottom the throttle cable seems fine i was really hoping it wasnt a crank seal as it seems to take forever to get parts around here and i really miss riding im off to the shop now and i guess ill double check everything with the carb and hope that i missed something thanks for the help Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

what7u Posted January 19, 2013 Author Report Share Posted January 19, 2013 ok so i finally managed to track down a flywheel puller and pulled the flywheel this morning the case seal looks mint im going to change it on monday when the bearing store opens but it looks like this is not my problem ive looked the manifold over but will check it again this afternoon im scared to spray brake clean because the bike is reving so high it sounds like its going to grenade and i really cant afford to fix it if it blows up Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
