jersey stew
Does anyone know of an alternative rear tyre to the Kenda 2.7 x 16 for the Oset 16"? Ideally one which is a bit knobblier as they seem to struggle on muddy sections with the lighter riders on them. Also the mechetechno 12" seems to have more traction? I wonder if this is due to better frame design or/ shock is better quality??
frogger
Do a Google for Tartybikes, they specialise in bicycle trials where the tyres are from. There are a few alternatives but all of them have about the same knobbly height. We have the same problem on our Oset 20, while it is this wet and with electric motor torque they can break traction very quickly. You can lower the tyre pressure which will give more grip (I suspect that may be why the Mecatechno has more grip, seriously doubt that frame design or shock will make that much of a difference on small bikes like these or maybe rider experience has more to do with it). Be careful through, if you lower the tyre pressure too much and your kid gives the bike gas the tyre will spin on the rim and it will rip the valve out so what we did is buy a KTM 65SX rim lock from eBay for £5, drilled the rear rim and put a rim lock in. Now we can run low pressures without the worry of the valve being ripped out and he gets plenty of grip. It would be great to get a more trials oriented tyre for these as the things my boy are now starting to do really needs a better tyre, specially in the wet! jersey stew
Have found some mx ones on the net but they are a really unpopular size and also I'm not sure if they would be legal for trials events? Why cant OSET come up with an alternative tyre for muddy conditions with slightly deeper tread? We could then have a spare rim and tyre combo to keep in the van. It all very well them making them wider but that wont allow them to dig down through the mud top find the harder stuff!
