Firstly what info do I need to age relate it, do i go to bill pye. Is it then on to the dvla and try and convince them?Is has recently been imported from Italy so will have no uk paperwork. gasserguy Posted February 13, 2013 Report Share Posted February 13, 2013 (edited) Get a certificate of newness (for an age related plate) from Bill Pye (for Fantic's) http://www.nickandka...ldfantic.co.uk/ otherwise it will be a “Q” plate. Get a daytime MOT if over 3 years old which this will be! You can get a Daytime MOT from any bike MOT station. Remove any lights unless they are fully working for a daytime MOT all you need are road legal tyres and a horn ( get the £10 mega horn from Halfords) horn that's it; clearly your bike need to be road worthy i.e. no oil leaks; good brakes etc etc just book it in and get your MOT! If you want a full MOT you will need tail light and brake might operated by both front and rear levers; front light with main beam and dip. Insurance Get insurance on the frame number (Carol Nash will do this for two weeks) you then have to give them the plate number when registered; make sure you can get to the DVLA within 2 weeks of insuring it or they will cancel your policy. The DVLA On the DVLA internet site, download a V55/5 from www.dvla.gov.uk or you can get one over the phone. When you get this fill it in with the obvious boxes but make sure you put it down as a 'trial bike' you don't need to fill out all the emissions info / power to weight etc etc, you don't need to fill out things to do with the MSVA test. Just fill out your details; bike info make, colour, cc's etc. Go to your local DVLA without the bike first but with all your paperwork ( inc passport and utility bill) you pay them £96 which includes your £36.00 tax for a year when you are there on your first visit you will need to book the bike in for a inspection go back on your inspection date; they measure seat height and ground clearance - that's all; and will tell you on the day of inspection its registration number and give you a tax disc Give the registration number to your insurance company. When you get log book just check the frame and engine number are correct. Get a rear number plate made up and tax disc holder. Enter a Sammy Miller round!!! Rest is the same. N.B. I'm not sure if Gas Gas or Bill Pye charge for the paper work or what proof they need, Normally it's some pictures of the bike including engine & frame number photo's! fantnick Posted February 13, 2013 Report Share Posted February 13, 2013 you can download a form from the vmcc website with instructions, they will date it for you if you fill in form and send in photo's, its' about £25.00. woody Posted February 13, 2013 Report Share Posted February 13, 2013 The certificate of newness only applies to new bikes - for a bike that is old you need evidence of its age from either the official importer, or if they no longer exist, a body that is on the DVLA approved list. For the Fantic, the importer is long gone. No doubt Bill Pye could confirm its age, but I'm not sure that Bill Pye would be on the approved list and if he isn't, DVLA won't accept his confirmation to obtain an age related plate. I think there may be a list of approved providers on the DVLA website. If Bill Pye isn't one, the Vintage Motorcycle Club in Burton-on-Trent can provide confirmation - check their website for details. You may be lucky and get away without an inspection - not all regional offices adopt the same procedures... When it's done follow some more of Gasserguy's advice - enter the Miller rounds.
