cubik2 Posted February 24, 2013 Report Share Posted February 24, 2013 Hello My hydraulics on my 1997 model 315 need attention and i was wondering what the best options were for parts. The fluid has leaked from the system. I saw no sign of wetness at the back of the master cylinder so i think it must be from the seals in the slave as i did see fluid inside there on removal....or was that gearbox oil ? Looking at the Montesa 315 parts list it lists 3 types of master cylinder for the bike ...97 year. 98-2000 and 2001-2004 Only the late model cylinder is still available new. Doesn't look like a piston kit is available for the 97 year either. Are the later model clutch masters interchangeable with the system or are they different for some reason ? Is the 97 type available from other bike manufactures as a spare I have noticed that the 97 models seem to differ in other areas albeit in minor details You can still get the seals for the clutch slave new so is that the best option for the slave ? From previous experience with cars re-placing pistons and seals only seems to last a while as the bore may be scored. chuck4788 Posted March 8, 2013 Report Share Posted March 8, 2013 3 different MCs but all years use the same slave so I suspect all of the MCs have the same bore size, I suspect the changes in MCs has to do with vendors. My 04 uses AJP hydraulics. I don't know the brand of the other MCs but others may post, and there are aftermarket kits for most brands. It's comes from the Gas Gas importer Trials Parts USA, but Montesa (and most other trial brands) uses the same clutch and brake levers. When I had my 1998 315R, I also had clutch problems and ended up, after a rebuild, replacing the complete master cilinder and rebuilding (seals and piston) the slave cilinder.
