brucej
Lew, I think you will find your 98 is a little different than the picture posted in this thread. On my 98 the sight window is also the filler hole.

brucej
After taking a better look at the picture, I will admit it does look like mine. I just assumed it would be different when you showed a different fill hole than what I've been using. I wonder, though, how long it takes you to refill it through that tiny little hole? I've had my bike for 3 years now, change the oil every 2 or 3 rides, never had a problem taking the sight glass out, filling it, and putting it back on. No harder to take out than the sidecover bolt, and gives a nice, big hole to pour the oil in. This is the method recommended by the US importer in the maintenance video I got with the bike, by the way, not something I made up myself. Anyway, you can do it however you like. ba baraccus
Brucej that photo is actually a little miss leading as it does circle a engine cover bolt. Although it is referring to the filler bung which is just located behind the kickstart. The picture is scanned from the TXT2001 handbook. brucej
Ah, things become clearer! Maybe we'll get this figured out yet! Just went out to the garage to double check, and there is no bung behind the kickstarter on my 98 tx270. No bolt, or anything else, either, that could possibly be used to put oil in, other than the sight glass. Unless maybe the sidecover bolthole WOULD work?? Gasgas must have changed it up on the newer models. The sight glass does tend to weep oil if you don't use a new sealing washer. A filler hole higher up, out of the oil bath, would be better. ba baraccus
I doubt the side cover bolt would work, I dont think it goes anywhere? If there is no bung then yeah you must have to use the sight glass!
