copemech
All you fellow geeks, ok the one in the shed has gone tits up and I cannot figure why. Late model running win7 and IE9, it still functions, yet when opening a website, such as TC, it will opem the mainpage, then if you clik anything, a bar comes up at the bottop statingthat the site is not responding. There is an option to recover webpage which just sends one into an eternal loop. Running AVG, which reports nothing, I ran the Malwarebytes which found 1 item and apparently is unable to delete it, apparently a hijack bug of unknown origin as I cannot ID it from the report. I also ran the windows scantool to no avail. Thinking about just running the recovery disk as I am getting p****d! Oh, and it said my System Restore was turned off, which was never. So screwed there too!

ham2
I am the default IT guy for two computers at work and two at home.....if I am your IT guy then you are really up the creek without a paddle. I have built my own tower unit before and assembling the hardware was the easy part, anyone who maintains their own trials bike could do it. The problem arises with software conflicts, something way over my head so I keep things really simple. Even with my limited knowledge I have rescued a couple of PC's from the type of malady that you're complaining of Copey. I switched to Google Chrome and installed Kingsoft antivirus and followed the prompts which has (so far) eradicated all hang-ups. Some of the mainstream (expensive ) antivirus programs (McAfee, Norton) were such resource hogs (even on a brand new laptop) that they seemed to cause more problems than they solved. copemech
Ooohhhh! The Sympathy just pours out! Andy, your supposition of porn on this computer is totaly out of line, I am appalled and offended! This is my shed computer which goes no place but TC, and related websites, Farcebook, and email. Just because I may have suggested certain femdom fantisies of Laia Sans in the past does not neccessarily make me a perv, and besides, it would mess up my workbench! I have other puters! I have become weary diiking about with this thing. The Restore disks came out.

copemech
It Lives! After a week of messing about, including trying the partial reinstall option which took all night yesterday and FAILED!, giving me a little flag at the end(useless junk), a total wipe and reinstall worked, now just gotta remove the factory junk programs ! zippy
That's good to hear it's back up and running Too bad it required a total wipe My older boys are in an IT and Network program and was helping a family friend with computer problems After much it was sadly decided to do a re-install. Computer owner was less than pleased.
0007
You know, all of your files are still there, hard drives don't get wiped, they are just allowed to overwrite whatever is there There is a way to get in there and find your stuff again
