Thumb Throttle?

I'm thinking of switching my son's oset 20 to a thumb throttle to avoid whiskey throttle. He's had one incident already and if it keeps happening and he gets hurt, he may not be so keen on riding, which would be terrible. He is familiar with a thumb throttle from his quad.

But since no one does this, its probably a bad idea, but I don't understand why?

I have no idea what Whiskey Throttle actually is, but if he is getting into trouble why not turn down the potentiometer and then build it back up as confidence increases?

Whiskey throttle is when you are holding on to the throttle and its pinned and totally out of control. Usually if you fall of the back of the bike and are still holding on to the grip, you hold the grip in the full throttle position and are running to keep up or whatever.

The 20`s a handful. Is this his first bike?

Yes. My son didn't even like riding bikes much either. But I tuned it way down.

He is doing incredibly well. He seems to be comfortable with the twist throttle after only about an hour on the bike

I made a couple videos of him today. Check it out:

I've ridden mountain bikes for years and he is already better at it than me!!

It seems my son can ride up and down a 2x8 set up on pallets within an hour of being on the oset, yet I can't come close to doing that after years of being on bikes

It also seems he is dealing well with the twist throttle, but I get whiskey throttle whenever I try.

So is there an 'old uncoordinated guy' forum I can move my question about thumb throttles to?
