Questions 4Rt

I need some help!

Yesterday I have started my 4rt with a second kick. Just after few seconds I have to shut it down. After that it was impossible to start. Haven't tried later, I will try this morning. What is the procedure for that situation? Do I need that throttle reset? How it is done?

Another thing is when I start cold engine and after few minutes put in to the gear it wants to start even with the clutch on. After few minutes it is ok. Is it normal that clutch is not 100% efficient until the oil gets working temperature, or it is problem with my clutch?

Another thing is that some times when I am starting the engine I have a felling that the lever is sliping, like it is not engaging the piston totally.

Thus the clutch need some fine tuning or I have to replace the springs or plates?

Thanks for any help!

Right first thing first ''No Throttle'' it don't like that?

To reset open throttle fully and press the kickstart down slowly, not too fast as you don't want it to fire, release throttle and start as above.

Ref your clutch, what year is your bike and what transmission oil are you using? Only use Elf HTX 740 in the transmission for the best clutch operation. Ref reset of the throttle, open the throttle fully to the stop and hold it open while slowly kicking the kick start a couple of times, release the throttle and kickstart the the bike without touching the throttle. Let the bike warm up (from completly cold) until the radiator fan comes on before touching the throttle or riding.

I have used Elf HTX 740 for almost 10 years, first in my 315R and later in my 4RT. It's no bad oil, but there's a better one: GRO Gear Extreme 75W, very smooth clutch action, no drag ( so this problem: "when I start cold engine and after few minutes put in to the gear it wants to start even with the clutch on" should go away) , much easyer to get the bike in neutral...

(When changing to another oil: change the oil, ride around the blok and change the oil again)

ATF oil will improve your clutch action in the same way, (search this forum and you will be the wiser!)

To "reset" the trottle: one kick should do the trick.

Warming your bike up the official Montesa way:

"Cold Engine Starting

1. Shift the transmission into neutral.

2. With the throttle fully closed, operate the kickstarter.

Starting from the top of the kickstarter stroke, kick

through to the bottom with a rapid, continuous

motion.

3. After the engine starts, run it for a few minutes,

“blipping” the throttle, until it warms up enough to

idle."

(Now you can ride away, but don't put to much load on the engine before the fan starts for the first time)

Another thing is that some times when I am starting the engine I have a felling that the lever is sliping, like it is not engaging the piston totally

Did you try to start it in gear with the clutch engaged?
