gazzaecowarrior
The bottom shock bolt is completely seized on my bike. I've removed the swingarm, put it in a vice for better leverage and still no joy. Im currently bathing the nut in wd40 and will try again. I don't think the bolt has ever been taken off. Ive only owned the bike for a week. It had a sticker over the rubber bolt cover on the swing arm so it has clearly never been off. If the wd40 fails, what are my options? I was thinking of heating the nut end of the bolt up with oxyacetelene and then it should twist out. But Im concious the swing arm is alloy and im worried about heat near it and the shock itself. I cant get a hacksaw either side of the shock either. Help !!
zerorev3rev4
leave it to soak for a while then if you have an allen bit in the bolt or even a drift in the allen head and beat it with a hammer to get some shock through it ,if you can turn the bolt whilst someone can hit the tool or even the nut to shock it whilst trying to turn it it should undoe failing this it will need heating

I will let it soak over night. Just tried it again. This time I put the allen key itself in the vice and tried to rotate the swing arm. It is so seized I snapped the damn allen key. Patience is needed.
zerorev3rev4
see if can file grind the shank flat and give it a good bray into the allen head wear goggles just incase then put a 6 sided socket on the shank bray and turn at same time ,you need to get shock into it

The nut at the back of the bolt is not pressed up against the direction of force if you shock the bolt.
zerorev3rev4
think your missing the point the shock isnt suppose to shock it in any direction it is to break the seal inbetween bolt and nut if you have a handheld impact driver that could help though
betabonkers
Bring it up I've had experience with these bad boys.

If the back of the nut was against the swingarm you could.
zerorev3rev4
the shock goes through the bolt into the nut just try it

gazzaecowarrior
Update. Heated nut up to cherry red and the damn thing still won't shift. I've got a horrible feeling the whole bolt is seized in both the steel collar of the shock as well as the nut. The guys in the workshop are going to try an air impact type tool next. betabonkers
I've taken one to m price engineering in ponty and they got it out with no damage.
zerorev3rev4
blimey what a chew ,, if using air impact gun they need to be carefull not to round it out or youre in more trouble did you try hitting it whilst trying to undoe when hot ,,been seized to the bush wont stop it undoing to start with (but could then go tight unless it pushes the nut away from swing arm ) as the inner bush will turn it sounds like it could be seized in the swingarm as you probably know steel against alloy is just asking for trouble ,try soaking where the bolt passes through the swing arm failing all this it may need to be drilled out
0007
I can't remember if it has a nut on the back or it was captive but if its a nut then it would be great if the bolt and nut shear off, then you could put it in the press Think of it like this, it's already damaged, the worst that can happen is you break something that is already broken Or if it still works fine then just leave it alone til later
gazzaecowarrior
Tried the air impact gun and still nothing. I think its going to have to be drilled out and pressed out. Definitely an engineering job. May leave it a while as the bearing is fine and i cant see me having the bike for too long. Just annoying as poor maintenance by the previous owners have caused this.
