carlsmith
Hi chaps, I've just bought a cheap beta techno 250. The first issue I need help with is the oil like substance leaking from where the rear silencer joins the centre section. Do I need to do rings or something else. The other issue is that the cooling fan is missing. Is it necessary or can I do without it for now. Thanks in advance Carl
0007
The technical term for the fluid coming from the silencer is "Spooge" LOL All it indicates is that you are running rich or possibly the oil mix is way to conservative Run it at 80:1 with a good brand of oil, might need to repack your silencer as it will be plugged with the gorp As for the fan, ya I think you will need it
carlsmith
Thanks 0007. Carb is off for a clean. When you say mix is too conservative do you mean not enough fuel or oil. And fan is on order £120 ouch. Thanks again
0007
Conservative would be running it at 20:1 I run my bike at 80:1 with a good quality Motorsport oil Avoid cheep oils and marine oils
carlsmith
just to be clear thats 80ml of oil for 5l of fuel? is that right
0007
80 liters of gas to 1 liter of oil 8 l to 100cc 4 l to 50cc That's how I do my moron math LOL
canada280i
Easier way= 1 litre divided by 80, so as follows: 1000 (ml) divided by 80 = 12 .5 - so, you use 12.5 ml or cc of oil per one litre of gas Multiply as required for the number of litres of gas you have Edited April 28, 2013 by canada280i
carlsmith
Now that's what I call a definitive answer. Now I know I need 62.5 ml per 5l of fuel. Previous owner ran 75ml per 5l which is probably why I've got spooge from the exhaust. Many thanks Carl
pindie
I use 16ml oil per litre of fuel at 60:1. No spooge. Just make sure at least once a ride you get the pipe warm by doing 5-6 3rd gear roll ons, low speed to fast and back whilst under load. Also change you silencer packing as it is a sign that it is soaked with old oil and due a change. All two strokes make spooge but most applications get hot enough to burn it off. Trials irons don't tend to rev to clear it. This is one of the reasons they are no longer accepted as mainstream racing tools because they are dirty and fairly oily beasts. I'd rather have a tad of spooge at the end of a years riding than a seized/worn motor through lack of oil.
carlsmith
I've pulled the packing from the exhaust and it was like an oily rag!! Now repacked and ready for action
