Observers

Completely demoralised by my recent pathetic results, I decided not to ride a club championship trial last Sunday and for the first time since I got back into trials a couple of years ago, offered my services as an observer instead. So me and t'lad wandered down to section 1 and awaited the hoardes.

You know what? I enjoyed the day far more than if I'd been riding and I think I actually learned a lot from watching the different lines that people chose. The decent weather helped I'm sure and despite being eaten alive by the midges even my 8-year old son (who, surprisingly, never got bored all day, stayed well out of the way when asked and helped out by pointing out the correct route to the D-class riders) was asking if we could observe again next week!

If like me you're getting fustrated with your apparent lack of progress as a rider, my advice is to take a couple of events off and observe instead. I found it to be very educational and an excellent re-motivator.

NHMC do wednesday evening trials in the summer, always a score yourself on punch cars. If you are marking yourself and you cheat, the only person you are cheating is yourself, so why bother. That said, if I do make a complete ballsup of a wednesday section, I call that run a practise one - I think everybody else does the same! I would go around with someone else, but always arrive late (have to be picked from school), so have to tear around to get finished in time!

Cheers, Pete.

Have tried that, but teachers here are not interested in motorbikes, only the sport/subject that they teach. Also, Dad can't get away from work until 4 at the earliest - the trials start at 3, takes an hour to get there, 10mins to unload/sign on! Only takes a few hours to get done, event lasts till 9 or the last person finishing, so plenty of time.

Cheers, Pete.

Looking at the regs in the TMX and i saw one club offering 1/2 price entry if you brought an observer with you. I thought it was a good idea anyway.  :P

HDMC pay a tenner to the observers at weekend trials. And the entry fee is.....a tenner.

So I usually end up owing the missus a tenner....sorry, I mean ANOTHER tenner!! :D

Cheers
