scrambler
I have a 2005 Scorpa 175. It has a Morad rear rim that from the outside has the same profile as other bikes I've seen with tubeless tyres. It doesn't have a rim lock, but it has an inner tube and tube type tyre on. Thinking that the previous owner had put a tube in to stop it leaking, I have bought a new tubeless rim tape and tubeless tyre. I was told that the rim tape locates in two grooves in the rim, but my rim doesn't have those grooves. Does this mean my rim is a tube type? Or did older rims not have the grooves? Thanks for your help.
copemech
The fact it has no machined groove for a rim sealing band tells the tale! I seem to recall that the case with the standard bike at the time, with the Racing version having the bells and whistles, oh well!
scrambler
Thanks. I've put the tubeless tyre on and used an inner tube. It's a massive improvement on the tube type tyre it replaced. I haven't used a rim lock, but after an hours riding yesterday the tyre hadn't slipped at all. Not much power from the little Yam engine I guess. b40rt
Any tube type rim I have seen has a hole/s for rimlocks, the tyre can also move with braking. I would fit a rimlock personally if using a tube.
taffe
Hi, I remember back in the day drilling and tapping holes around the rim, and using suitable length bolts with a point ground on the end that screwed into the thick rim part of the tyre. Never had any problems. Cheers Taff
