Hi, I've searched the forums and cant find any reference to the amount of oil a RTL250s should have. Please, if somebody has a manual (i dont yet, but's its on its way from France) PLease could you post the amount of oil in the engine?

Thanks,

According to page 1-9 of the manual is says '0.9 liters' which presumably means 0.9 litres! As an aside it states that the recommended oil is 'Honda 4-Stroke oil or equivalent BP CORSE 30/Corse 40' - whatever that means!

Good luck.

Maxbikes - I am intrigued by your reply as the original manual says 0.9 litres. What makes you say that 0.8 litres is correct? Is that through trial and error?

I am asking as I dont want to be putting too much oil in my own bike and thus grateful for your input - and also the recommendation on the oil that you use. Presumably this is for an 86 model too?

Hi there,

Honda have provided a level plug to check the engine oil.

With the engine cold sit the bike level on a paddock stand. Looking at the clutch case there should be a level screw tucked away below the bulge for the clutch just in front of the kickstart lever. Remove the oil filler cap from the front of the clutch case then remove the oil level plug. The oil level is correct when oil just begins to trickle out. The level plug is only M6 so the oil should run out slowly. If no oil runs out add new oil slowly through the filler hole until it runs out of the level plug hole. To avoid over filling let the oil run out until it stops.

Check the sealing washer and refit the level plug screw, take care the thread in the case is easily stripped.

Hope this helps.

I have just changed the oil on my RTL using the big drain plug on the left side.

Interestingly if you wait until the oil stops flowing then tip the bike towards the left an appreciable quantity of oil comes out. I repeated this 5 or 6 times and each time additional oil came out, progressively reducing to zero.

I estimate a total of 50 to 60 cc were trapped inside upon normal draining so you would be mixing used oil with the fresh if you left inside.
