Thanks to paul and bultaco uk for the help I first stripped the bike to a rolling chassis. Lined the chair up and prepped for welding Took lots of measurements and got the thing ready to be welded. Its ment to be a springerdor but it definitely has magpie in him. The little black puppy is 15 weeks old and is a hoarder of tools. p@ul250 Posted September 2, 2013 Report Share Posted September 2, 2013 Hi bultoboy Well done, I'm glad things are coming along, Before you get to far in, try to drop the suspension on the chair down an inch or two. a shorter but harder shock from a scooter/moped would do! If I'm right that one is off an MZ Ts 250 road bike and is very soft. Also I am now using 65 lb per inch springs on the Betor pro rear shocks of my Bultaco that I got from ty trials.co.uk. I did have 50 lb springs but we had to have the preload wound up a fair bit and 25mm fork preload spacers that I got from Billet parts.co.uk (£4.50) The pup looks cute mate! bultoboy Posted September 4, 2013 Author Report Share Posted September 4, 2013 Hi Paul, I have put some njb experts onto the bultaco, there is a guy at inmotion who used to ride outfits and after a bit of a natter he took some weights and got his man at njb to build me some one offs up. I thi k he but on 75lb springs. I have got everything welded up now so the shock on the chair will have to stay. The vendor did split the bike up and sold it on separate. I phoned him and negotiate a very good price for the chair. (Less then 170 quid). I think I need to find a tyre for the wheel. Any ideas? Its off a kawasaki I think about 16 inch will look later. Hopefully I will have the engine in soon and try a trial in the next few weeks. p@ul250 Posted September 4, 2013 Report Share Posted September 4, 2013 (edited) That is a VERY VERY good price you got that for mate! The red one I'm fitting to my Beta was £150. It's no were near as good condition as your one and will need a lot of work. I was happy to pay that price too! As for a tyre for the sidecar wheel any ribbed type of between 2.5" and 3" wide will be fine. It doesn't need to be a knobbly type. If you haven't built what is called a floating deck between the sidecar and rear of the bike,Like this a foot peg fitted to the swing arm will help with getting the passengers weight onto the rear wheel. I have been told that a floating deck is better for really rocky ground were the outfit is taking big hit's and a foot peg is better on softer going were you may be hunting for grip. Its at my dads at the moment but I will take lots of pictures and post them up soon. The man to ask about side cars is paul who has posted above. The Bruce Rushton chair I have has ball race's like wheel bearings and on the chair I built I used "silent" (polyurethane) bushes. Land Rover Panhard Rod bushes to be exact. This is the swing arm on the chair I built. I will take a photo of the Rushton chair's swing arm. but it is a piece of tube for the bearing's a piece of box section as the arm and a second tube for the wheel's axle. I have just finished a big project I was working on so now I have a bit more room in the shed to make a mess and start on the trials outfit. I am back at my dads this weekend so I will get out into the shed and try to get some pictures of the bultaco chair.
