d250b
When re-assembling an Amal carb, should you put anything on the new float chamber gasket? Oil or grease? Or should it go in dry? Also, would you put a wee bit of grease or Vaseline on the rubber 'o' rings on the jets? Cheers D
pro sport
When I fitted a new float chamber gasket I didn't use anything as the petrol might dissolve it, anyway the gasket should seal on its own. The O ring on mixture screw might need a little rubber grease to aid fitting the O ring into the groove, and the same with the slow running screw. The main , needle , and pilot jets do not have O rings fitted, as far as i know.
crowley
The gasket should go on dry, however, I have used a dab of grease if just refitting the float bowl to an awkwardly mounted carb - like the middle one on a Trident. As for O ring lube, why not use a smear of 2 smoke oil?
d250b
Thanks for the replies, it's now back on the bike and once I've got the air filter sorted we'll see how she goes. Cheers D
