stou
This morning I replaced the clutch plates on my Tr280 for the new upgrade kit from Ossa. The old one was draging a lot even when the bike was at operating temperature. My dealer lent me the tool to align the spring. So I did the replacement this morning. I put oil on the plates when I put them in place, used the align tool and put everything back together. Everything went really easy. I started the bike to try it... when I shift, the bike started to roll. I put the brakes and it stalled. So I start again and let the engine warm for a while, same thing. I can't see whats wrong? Is there a specific side for the release arms?
stou
Found the problem! When I put back the clutch cover, I have to turn the kick start a half turn conter clockwise. I didn't saw it but the washer that goes on over the 18 release arms slip under the release arms when I did that. So the clutch didn't engaged properly. I immediately saw it when I took off the clutch cover. So now it's ok. But the new plates also drag... my dealer told me that Ossa told him the new plates are better and eliminate the draging... of course
canada280i
Did you readjust the lever after putting in the new plates? If the lever was adjusted for the old plates I guess it could need a bit of fiddling to get right. I have a 2013 with the new plates fittes as standard and there is still a little drag which a control with lever adjustment Edited September 23, 2013 by canada280i
jay_lael
So I am the proud owner of a 2013 Factory racing 300, and the clutch does drag a bit. It's not as bad as my old Maico square barrel, but it's close. The lever adjustment if tightened to about 1/8 inch or less, of play at the push pin on the mc. It feels normal but you have a hell of a time finding neutral with the engine running. I love the bike, so much so that I am putting up with the dragging clutch, but it sure would be nice if it worked more like a Sherco/Beta/Montesa clutch. I don't know if that's actually possible or not. Is it? Does anyone's OSSA clutch really truly not drag? I am using very light gear oil, (about the thickness of sewing machine oil), before you tell me that's the problem. canada280i
We have the same bike so if you come across the magic cure please share!
bigmark1972
It feels normal but you have a hell of a time finding neutral with the engine running. Same bike, same issue. The dragging is not too bad to ride with for me. My clutch **** the bed today during a practice session, the bike has less than 40 hours on it. I had plenty of free play at MC but it's slipping badly. Will pull it apart tomorrow and have a look. biffsgasgas
I have seen numerous people on Mont 315R's having a dragging clutch. The magic cure for those seemed to be a tight chain and the ELF oil (can't remember the viscosity). You risk going too tight but its something to try as its easy and cheap. --Biff
