atomant
Had another ride of the 4t yesterday - first time in mud. I had a bit of a play on section 2. Stuck it in 2nd gear like I would on the 2t, and i couldn't move anywhere. Felt weird, didn't seem to have any feel of what the back wheel was doing. It was fairly slow stuff on muddy banks and a couple of logs. Knocked it up in to 3rd and cleaned it. It felt lovely.Do you tend to pull higher gears on these? Or does it just take some getting used to? I rode most of that day in first and second gear except sections 1 & 3 which was in third.( Section 2 I rode in second btw) . Didnt lose much grip at all and had the best ride I have ever had in muddy conditions. I know for a fact that I wouldnt have done so well on my 290. To answer your question, In the dry I use 1st when i would have used 2nd on the 290. In the wet, I normally go up a gear and any banks to go up which are wet, I would use 3rd. 4th gear is too much of a step up and Sherco may need to look at this for the 06 model. If hard to start, open throttle to full, and crank the kick start through a couple of times, then shut off throttle and prime and start has you normaly do. Ishy, Funny you should say that as that is what I worked out too Today, I striiped the carb down and cleaned it out and found it to be spotless. But what I did do when I put it back together, was leaving the airbox off, I tried to restart it and it wouldnt go. As soon as I blocked the air intake with my hand, it fired then went on the next kick. I aslo noticed some significant blowback through the carb also and this maybe whats causing the problem of starting it. what do you think? howard wallace
Ishy, Re checked my shims after about twenty hours ,and only one exhaust had closed up a thou, pretty impressive. Re the flatslide, just wanted to try it as had it sitting round off 2T, and had a greater range of jets and needles to tune with. Ran sweet all weekend ,with very fine tunability on the pilot. With stalling ,and restart, I think you get a chuff or pulse back into the intake, and this seems to upset mixture. Also found a couple of kicks with open throttle, then closed, and fires up next kick. Edited June 27, 2005 by Howard Wallace
