baldilocks
Before I get the hacksaw out does anyone have a diagram showing the location of the baffle plates on a 320 ? Have pushed a long screw driver through from where the silencer joins the middle box but cant find anything. The box has been previously welded and im wondering if one or both of the plates has been removed. The baffle tube is still present at the entry point. There is somthing in there rattling as you can hear it when the engine is running but shaking the box it doesn't rattle ?
mudyman
Hi baldilocks, if you go through all the older SWM topics / posts, I´m sure there was a complete thing about changing the Baffels with diagrams and more information. Cheers Ian
baldilocks
Hi Ian I tried that and found a thread with some pics, this maybe what you are thinking of ? The pics are actually of a bultaco silencer as its a similar concept.

b40rt
Glen, don't think a TXR system will fit, without altering the pipe into 2 pieces, and cutting dowm the head fins on the right hand side. You gouing to seaton delaval on sunday ? Have a look at cylinder head then. Ross

b40rt
It that a Jumbo exhaust ? Or is this a conversion to straight (ish) through. Any packing ? Thanks for posting.
baldilocks
Mine was similar to that inside Ross but the exit tube was much shorter and there was another chamber before the original two small exit pipes. The noise was from the large plate with the square hole in rattling as it was only spot welded. Bike goes much better now but this is more to do with lowering the needle from standard and replacing jets with new ones.
pschrauber
Very cool, again a Helmholtz resonater muffler, which was very commen back in the early eighties. A system of different tubes and recesses combined with a sequence of different volume. Each of them is responible to reduce noise of a cretain wavelength. Technical the Helmholtz resonators works as a resonance absorber, this princip is still used in building acoustics. Disadvantage of this design is that it exerts a certain constant back pressure as the exhaust gases are led through a maze, which costs power. But the engine runs very evenly so.
