Funny mine did similar Sunday. I think I inadvertently stalled just as I kick started it or didn't start it properly. Fired once or twice then struggled with it as you described. I have winter plug in mine which seems to improve things. Also make sure in neutral and stopped on kill button. If you find anything else let me know!

I had a similar issue on my 06 bike, turned out the valvues were running too tight when the engine was hot. It started fine when cold tho. Might be worth checking them.

I was going to add the same advice as John, Had exactly same experience with tight valves, ashamed to say that I had not checked them for a year or more as they so rarely change, however picked up the exhaust valves were about 0.03 tight when I checked them, adjusted and an immediate improvement in hot starting and never looked back since.

I had an 05 4RT that i gave to my lad and never had these problems. We still have the bike. I bought a nearly new 09 (It had only done 1 trial.) and have the same problems as you. The bike has done this from day one. I often have to open the throttle and kick to remap before it will start. I have never checked the valve clearances and the bike has done so little they should not need adjustment.

I have asked a few people who have owned 4RTs and the newer ones often have this problem.

Think i might be getting the feeler gauges out.

I find that if I stall my '05, it can be difficult to start after.

I also had a problem recently with the throttle cable pulling out of the fitting on the hand throttle just enough to crack the throttle open even when I held the throttle in the closed position. As you know, if the throttle is open at all, the bike will not start. Check that the cable end is fully seated.

just like to say thanks for all the feed back I got, think I will be getting the feeler gauge out is there anything I have to be careful of, regards to all

It can be awkward finding top dead centre on the compression stroke, but otherwise ok to do.
