laird387
Hi, In our December 1999 Bath Classic club trial is youg Alan Stringer on his Bultaco. We found we could set sections that a pre-65 could cope with - and still give youngsters a relatively safe day out. This particular section caught a lot of the youngsters out because we put a pair of flags as Begins cards at the bottom of a fairly steep field, and a pair of Ends cards at the top of the field. "But where do we go?" chorused the modern riders. "In through the Begins and out through the Ends," we told them. "But where between?". "You choose," we told them, " but make sure you choose a route you can ride feet-up........" The poor lads were totally confused! But some of them learned the lesson picking a path - not just trick cycling through a tightly taped maze......... Enjoy.
laird387
Hi, A couple of interesting images to help introduce a pair of the photographers that were active years ago. Both images are of Sammy Miller, competing in the 1968 British Experts in the Llwyncwtta section. The front view was taken by Brian Holder and shows Malcolm Carling taking a picture, standing just to the left of the small tree. The rear view is the photograph that Malcolm was taking and shows Brian Holder with his Leica M3, over Sam's front wheel!!!!!!! Enjoy. laird387
Hi, In the 1972 A-CU Inter-centre Team trial at Burrington, Alan Vines was busy with his camera for the archive. Dennis Saunders of the Western Centre team - note the immaculate machine preparation. Dennis was originally an enthusiastic cricketer and did not ride in his first trial until he was 28 – on a rigid B31 BSA with Dowty forks. He was best novice in that first event, and then went straight into the first class awards, going on to ride Royal Enfield, Greeves, Sprite and Cotton machines. He was a prolific award winner in the Western Centre and surrounding areas and son Steve also went on to achieve great results. Enjoy. laird387
Hi, It is 1975 and Brett Haley is giving it some wellie in thed annual miniature Scott trial known as the Ilkley Grand National, a two-lap affair across the open moorland on the north side of Beamsley beacon. There is a 'standard time' set for the first lap and riders have to 'beat' the standard in order to be allowed to start on their second tour - in all a clever test of route picking across tricky bogs, competent riding and sheer stamina. Enjoy. Edited March 14, 2014 by laird387
