Hi,

Another image from the 1976 British Experts, shows the top rider from mid-Wales at the time, Bernard Gore from Newchurch with the Ossa sponsored by Pip Eyles of Hawthorne Garage, Pontypridd (yes, the hole with a mint!).

Sadly Bernard was not at his best and finished in 23rd place on the day.

Enjoy

Hi,

Bill Wilkinson won the British Experts in 1960 with 'L' plates on the bike - but it was a different story in 1976.

Bill had a terrible journey from his home in Kettlewell, Yorkshire down to Stroud in Gloucestershire, suffering a puncture on the M6 which was no sooner fixed than the fanbelt expired - no lights and it is pitch dark in November.

He struggled into Hilton services - but the only fanbelt they had was about 8 inches too long - so a jury-rig was applied to the alternator, wedging a block of wood between it and the crankcase - finally arriving in Stroud at four in the morning.

All in a day's trials and tribulations.

Enjoy.

Hillary - Great spotting again !!!

Ian Haydon's mum is an 8/10

But Ian Haydon's parent's DOG is full marks !!!

I think this spot (the dog that is) should be independently verified

before the award of marks.

Not that I doubt your word or memory, you understand. Over to the SW stalwarts.

Did you know that Ian Haydon's father was a pre-war (1939 to 1945 that is) trials rider of some note.

Yours, not too seriously,

Sparks

Hi,

Stylish riding on typical Midland Centre going, Alan Wright in the Leamington Victory Clubs Good Companions Trial in January 1973 on the OSSA that was one of his favourite machines.

The observer is Barbara Sheppard, well wrapped up against the winter cold.

Enjoy.
