woody
Hi Good post SteveM, I wouldn't disagree with anything. Woody is correct about the M198B / M199B tanks. They were different to earlier (M198A / M199A) tanks and constructed in a different way -- more welded sheets than the pressing and shaping of the earlier tanks. On mine though, the welded seams were very vulnerable to leaks and cracks, especially the seam just above the tap. Has yours been so repaired Woody ?? Yes Sparks, indeed they have. Every one I've had has split on that part of the seam and other places. They seem to just split from vibration, no matter how much cushioning I put under them. Also, where your legs rub at the rear of the tank it can gently file away at the seam and it splits there too.
hencam
thank you all for the information and facts surrounding my bikes and frames. i reckon i'll take the light weight frame 4lb lighter than standard has to be a major plus, unless its rusted out from the inside!!!! no doubt i will find out the first time i drop off an incline. put the 198B engine in it with any other odd bits i can find build it up and see what i end up with. worst case it will be just another Bultaco saved from the scrap yard, best case a decent little trials bike.
