post-19186-0-01693700-1391096962_thumb.jpgi thought putting a new fuel filter on would be a simple job but for some reason i have had nothing but problems, the first filter i replaced was my own fault, i took the tank off so i could connect the fuel pip to the carb easier and then left it hanging while i put the tank back on and squashed the filter between the tank and the frame so i had to put the old one back on then i bought one from the splat shop yesterday put it on and their was no way my bike would start so i took it off and it had petrol in it, i put the old one back on and my bike kicked in, i made sure the arrow was in the right direction but the only thing that was a little bit different was the length of the pip, i cut it a little bit longer than the original pipe, does it matter how long it is and as anyone got any idea why it doesn't work. If you're still running the dellorto then a fuel filter isn't really needed as the carb has a screen behind the bolt when the fuel pipe connects to it, length of the pipe shouldn't affect how the filter works so your new filter may be a dud

Agreed, an additional filter isn't a must with a delorto on your age of bike, Just make sure your tank is clean. Your carb should be cleaned on a regular basis so the screen filter should be included with every clean.

The newer bikes with the rear tank is a different story as they fill up with crud very easily, I run 2 filters on mine and havent changed them for a year, The tank gets flushed out every so often and it's always full of cr4p.

It's more important to clean your carb and airbox after every muddy trial, People get too paranoid about fuel filters, The main problems are caused by crud and water entering through the inlet or letting the bike sit for weeks without draining the fuel.

I clean my carb before every ride and have noticed since using Putoline oil that it seperates to gold sludge in the carb bowl after standing for 2 weeks, Never had this with shell of Ipone oils.
