stpauls
Hi Like the look of OSSAs. Worried about reliability issues. Faults? Would I regret buying a 2012/13 ? Thanks Tony
canada280i
Depends on who you talk to, I had a 2011, one of the first that was perfect with absolutely no issues where others had all sorts of gearbox issues etc. I liked mine so much that I traded up for a 2013 factory R which has again so far been faultless. There are well documented starting issue pages on this site that are worth a read so you have the full picture.

bordermike
Plenty about at the northeast trials , seem to give no probs and most are ridden by good riders doing the harder stuff.
cabby
Isn't this section the wrong place to ask ? A bit like asking in, say the sherco section, are sherco's good bikes.
lotus54
I've had great results with my 2014. From what I read, they did address issues from the older bikes. But all well known and upgradable mostly. Mark
canada280i
I think the bike specific forums are for the most part honest places to get answers, yes you are always going to get the " my bike is the best, nothing bad to say" crowd, but I find that you also get a lot of people on here willing to give you the bad as well as the good to try to help out others
jsp
I love my 2012, it has its moments when its a bugger to start but once its going its awesome to ride, hoping to maybe get a new one next year jsp
jsp
canada280i ; how are you getting on with the factory 300 ? I do like the extra kit you get on them, but worry they will be a bit of a hand full
canada280i
Only thing I did was to put a slow action throttle tube on it to calm the delivery down a little for me but otherwise I love it. I was concerned it would be too much bike for me but I soon got used to it. Lots of discussion and test rides with the dealer but once i was on it there was really no way i was leaving the dealership without it. also put some 10 mil bar risers on but that was just for my benefit as I also had them on my 2011
canada280i
JSP, I don't know what battery assist you are using but one thing that definitely helped me was to use a high power battery, I use energizer lithium, costs a lot more than a standard 9v but definitely worth it in my opinion. Of course the new capacitor/battery starter on the 2014 models has apparently fixed the issues fully and the part will retrofit when available
jsp
I 've been using duracell but i'll get a energizer, hasent yours got the new start system on it ? theres a mint green framed factory bike on ebay at the moment not sure if to hold off till the 2015 bikes come out and get a standard
canada280i
I dont have the new easy start on my bike, it wasn't added until the 2014 models and mine is a 2013. I have enquired about getting one and have been told that they will retrofit, apparently this new system which is a combo capacitor/battery pack has cured the starting completely, I will be taking a look at a 2014 at the dealership in the near future and will see for sure. Regardless of whether the part becomes available or not my 300 is still quite easy to start and I beleive moreso with the high-power 9v giving the charge. That 300i on ebay is nice looking, looks a lot like mine, although the mapping switch is in a very strange position attached to the water pump. I also don't think it would have the new starter pack on it as they were not available to the best of my knowledge that early in 2013. My bike was new in June and didn't have it, although I don't know for sure, this could be the exception.
k s
Hi Like the look of OSSAs. Worried about reliability issues. Faults? Would I regret buying a 2012/13 ? Thanks Tony Hi I bough mine 2013 280 about six months old. The bike was perfect as new, not used for racing. My major problem was starting, but I did make a battery pack with a 9 volt battery, and that work really good for me. I´ve also tried to start a Gas Gas 300, and my Ossa is easier to start with battery than the GG. I also have to say that I`m really novice on bike, but it is really easy to ride, I do really enjoy it. I can recommend it.
toothandnail
I got a 2012, ALWAYS starts 2-3 kick cold 1-2 hot, only problem I've had was the wires to the rear tail light were laid on the exhaust, and shorted out. Fixed that , I don't see how a bike could be better, I had GG before. No problems with them to speak of either, I like the Ossa better.
