rainey88
Right just bought a 250 racing 2012 model and its pinking quite abit under load etc and when riding about. Take it this is from running too lean? Havnt had the carb off yet which i will be doing friday afternoon. Just wondered if anyone else has had problems and what to check first. Thanks. rainey88
Or anyone know how a keihin carb should be set up?
5again
Similar experience with new to me 280 Racing. Went from middle needle clip down one, ok in sections but pinky on the going, still needs to go down another slot to the bottom notch. Actually suspect the slide needs to be richer, but at £60 will try make it better with the needle.
rainey88
Im new to these carbs and until iv had it in bits tomorrow i dont really know what im looking at, does anyone know of a diagram to explain this a it better. I thought it may of been down to the jets and just mixture and air screw?

lineaway
Try two steps bigger on the pilot jet.
dadof2
Plug grade and colour? Float height? Air filter clean and oiled? Squish clearance? Grade of fuel? Make of fuel? Age of fuel and how long since mixed with oil?
rainey88
Hi dadof, Not sure with the plug will have to up date when i go out and check the bike. Fuel is super unleaded from a total garage. Brand new fuel mixed the day of riding which has been the weekend. How do you check your float height and squish clearance? Filter is cleaned and oiled after each ride or checked to see if it needs doing at least.
tltel
squish and float adjustment have been covered loads of times you should be able to search for them on the forum. Might be worth taking the exhaust off and looking at the top of the piston to see if its coked up. TLTEL
rainey88
Ive recently changed the head insert and didnt think the piston was that bad, maybe should give it a clean so its spotless ?
tltel
I don't know anything about head inserts, but maybe re-jetting is the answer. Was it pinking before you did the head. TLTEL
rainey88
Yeah it was doing it before i changed it, so a bigger on the jets then ?
lineaway
Like I said, go up two sizes on the pilot. If it fixes it, come summer go down one size and see how it is. Funny thing about all the jetting Gurus out there, the pilot jet flows from idle to wide open. If the bike is running, the pilot is flowing.

If i remember rightly a while back someone made alloy adapters for the dellorto is there any for the keihin?
