Hi, I am going to update my Canon 20D, and would like to know if anyone has used a Canon 6D or 7D for trials photography?

The main issue I have is lack of available light when taking photos in the woods, even using an external flash.

Few things amuse me as much as a monster flash going off in my face when I'm riding a section, normally it lets me know I'm getting to the tricky bit and I'm going to see it all in greenish monochrome

Try a Panasonic Lumix FZ series I am crap at photography, but even in simple mode and bad light it is so good it captures individual blades of grass at 30 yards.

Hi Mark, hopefully I can answer your question with some authority as I have and use a Canon 7D for shooting trials and other bike sports. Great camera which will give great shots in just about any conditions, autofocus works well and when all else fails you can pop up the flash and annoy the riders. I would have told you to go and buy this camera but about four months ago I bought a 5D MKii which has a full frame sensor and well wow! The quality of the pictures from the 5D just blew me away, even when the light dips you can ramp up the iso to 3200 and still see no noise and although the 5D "only" has nine af points it still has more accurate focusing than the 7D. Only reason to buy the 7D would be to save abit of cash but if not buy a 6D and revel in the quality of your images. How about this for a thought, you can buy a good 5D MKii from evil bay for about a grand!

Hi Bill, Thanks for your reply, I was leaning toward the Canon 6D due to its low light advantage over the 7 or 70D, I had not considered the 5D II so I will investigate that as well

Buy a full frame camera Mark. You will not regret it. Now if only I had the cash for a 5D MKiii......

l have used the 7D and the 5D Mk 1 and now have a 5D Mk3, and would have to disagree with our friend who reccomends the 5D Mk 2, and in fact I rate the 7D and 70D much higher than either of the earlier 5 models, though have not used a 6D so cannot comment on that.

My reasons are quite simple. I.E. The 5D Mk 1 was a wonderful camera for image quallity but the autofocus was lousy (And I do speak as a very seasoned Pro photographer). The 5D Mk 2 offered even better image quallity but sadly used exactly the same AF system, so again was a very poor camera for action photography, whereas the 7D is ultra fast and quite brilliant.

Hence Canon learned all of these lessons and incorporated them in the 5D Mk 3, which has even bettered the 7D's Auto focus performance and on full frame as well, and much of this AF technology has also been incorporated in the smaller sensor 70D as well. Certainly I would go for the 70D as a cheaper second body to my 5D Mk 3 now in preference even to my 7D.
