starr870
how do I remove the engine in my techno? Andy.
canada280i
take off peripheral bits such as carb/exhaust etc. undo engine mounting bolts, lift out......unless it is a more difficult process, although generally removing engine mounting bolts and wiggling should do the trick
lineaway
Well, you went from jetting to engine removal. You could fill in the blanks. I usually drain the oil remove the skid plate. Remove flywheel and stator. If you are doing an engine rebuild, I would remove the clutch basket and the primary gear off the crank. Then I would pull the cylinder and then the motor. Just my two cents.
starr870
yes I'm an expert at taking the carb off and stripping it in 5 minutes flat but it has dawned on me that it is the crank seals that are causing my smoking techno woes so I'm going to strip the engine and check out the seals and main bearings and replace if needed. I;ve never taken the engine out of the frame before and just wanted some tips on how to do so. Thanks.
lineaway
Yes, it is much easier to remove the big items in the frame. Removing the stator allows you not to remove any wiring at all. Just changing the seals and mains is a fairly cheap job if you can do it yourself. Good Luck!
starr870
I have got the clutch stripped out and removed the bolt from the end of the primary gear, do I need to make up a puller to remove the primary gear ? lineaway
It does seem that I used a small two arm puller to pop it off. Been since 2008 that I split a Beta
starr870
Ok ive got the flywheel and primary gear off and the engine out of the bike' how do I go about splitting the cases safely?
lineaway
Patience, plastic mallet, slowly work each end a little at a time. Do not damage the center case leading edges. Have the engine laying on it`s side, clutch side down. You do not want the transmission falling out. You can cut an old tire tube into strips that make great rubber holding bands for the gears and such.
