alanp
Hi all Is there a magic formula for getting the primary drive gear nut off on a TY175? I'm trying to replace the crankshaft seal without splitting the engine or removing the barrel etc. I've tried locking the crank via the flywheel but still can't get the nut to loosen off. Any tips or tricks? Is it a left hand thread or anything? Many thanks, Alan

feetupfun
For next time, and when you want to tighten it, don't hold the magneto flywheel because you risk twisting the crank out of alignment. Ideal method to undo - use rattle gun Next best method - jam a thick wad of rag in the pinch point of the primary gears For doing it up again - use rag method and a torque wrench, and loctite on the thread

I never use Loctite on a those nuts. I have never had one come loose without plenty of "encouragement" applied to the socket.
alanp
Thanks for the help - all done and back together now. Haven't run it yet - the carbs out for an ultrasonic clean tomorrow.
