Sherpa T Paint Scheme

Hi all,

I have an m49 that I'm starting to restore. Wanted to get your feedback. It needs all paint redone. Since all sherpa t's look similar, I was thinking of doing a flat black look. Black fiberglass, bars, rims, frame. All other metal and aluminum would be polished. My fear is that it will look like a metal mulisha reject bike and I'm not into the fmx crap.

Any thoughts? Trying to be different and also not have to do three color paint job.

Flat black will look absolute SH-T after your first time out in any mud. Absolutely impossible to get totally clean and will always hold on to the dirt.

The Model 49 is one of the best and most unique looking of the Sherpa's. Go Stock!

Is that yours? My aluminum fenders are toast.. was thinking of putting plastic ones on but not sure if they fit the same.

Hi yes this one is mine, The fenders are from Bultaco UK, the front fender brackets/stays are from Sammy Miller products. The paint scheme isn't that hard to do, just spray it silver first then mask up and paint red. Pin stripe is vinyl and then coat with clear.

I agree with the posters that the best colour scheme is Red/silver but I did something different for my M198. British Racing Green. The decals are stock. When I first starting riding this bike I spread a rumour that this was a special edition built for the SSDT and quite a few people who should have known better believed it.

The bike is a 1978 M198. I have owned this bike since 1983 and modified the frame to the aluminium plate when I was a hard up apprentice.

Looks awesome. Thanks for the tips. It's just warm enough here to be in the garage so it is time to work! First is sandblasting everything. Was thinking of doing a Preval paint job.

I like the white/green look.

There is a nice black and white Bultaco, stationed in the Netherlands. It's a PUMA rebuild.

I believe as long as you do the "paint work" with care and in accordance with the overall appearance of a Bultaco Sherpa involving all parts in the design scheme you can't do it wrong. It seems to me that all good examples in different colors still have a typical Bultaco Sherpa recognition value because they use the original labels.

Hi Stuart, I like the green of your Model 198 and I see your just down the road from me! If you get a chance pop up to a Norfolk & Suffolk Junior Mcc trial. We have a good selection of twin shocks attending our trials.

For a bit of a change I fitted a Kit Campeon tank/seat unit to my M49

So she now looks like this.

Paul,

I have to admit I have not been riding much in recent times. I made the silly mistake of buying a crashed homebuilt plane and spent all my time putting this back together. Now done and flying. I have just finished refreshing my M80 so I am also have a "Kit Campeon" I am planning to ride a few events soon. I was trying to remember last time I rode the M80 and I think it was backmarking at the pre 65 Scottish about 8 years ago. My son has twisted my arm and is borrowing this M80 for the Southend trial this weekend.

I've seen grey plastic fenders for sale. Not sure how they would look or if they would match the frame grey.

A friend did lend me a set of gray fenders that he had got for his Honda. Personally I thought they looked a bit to dark. They where close enough to look mismatched and not different enough to look deliberate.
