Sherco 125 Clutch Noise

Hello all,

My son has a Sherco 125 2007. The bike starts and runs fine but when he pulls in the clutch lever (to put it into gear) there is a rattling sound from the area behind the clutch cover. The sound seems to go away when he puts the bike into gear. I can feel the rattling vibrate up to the clutch lever.

Does anybody have any thoughts on what this is and how to fix it.

If the noise had of been before the clutch was pulled in I would have said the rubber dampers between the gear & clutch basket had gone hard & shrunk, fairly cheap to redo & makes the motor quiet again

I suggest removing the small cover over the clutch & checking that everything is tight, there is a small possibility that the bearing that the clutch runs on has worn out which would show up as rock in the basket which you would be able to see with the pressure plate & clutch plates removed

Chris from Splatshop may be able to give you some suggestions of other possibilities

Not being able to hear it, difficult to tell if there is an actual issue here.

Sitting running in neutral, they all have some rattle due to the engine power pulses shaking the clearances in both the primary drive gears and the transmission gears freewheeling. This would change normally to less noise with clutch lever pulled which relaxes the rattle on the tranny gears a bit.

Placed into a gear most rattle from backlash subsides due to residual drag of clutch and such.

Fact rattle subsided in gear is a good thing, however if still in question you would need to compare to others as no common issues here.

the noise has just started, it dosent seem to have developed as you might expect if it was due to a component wearing out.
