laird387
Hi, Yesterday after a brief illness resulting from a condition he had suffered for many years, Eric Rathmell passed away in Harrogate Hospital aged ninety-three years. Eric was not only a very competent engineer in his own right, he was ace spannerman for Malcolm and Gerald in their younger years, but he also worked diligently in the background doing work that ensured that motorcycle sport in Yorkshire flourished - he was, for example, section-finder in chief and Clerk of the Course for that speciality mini-Scott trial, the Ilkley Grand National for something like thirty years. Eric is pictured with another family friend, Martin Lampkin, by photographer Barry Robinson, who raced a scrambles Velocette for many years with a swinging arm designed and fabricated by Eric. "It never threw a chain in all the years I rode that bike, now that's engineering for you!" is just one of the memories. Eric Rathmell, respected and talented motorcyclist, R.I.P.
