sawtooth
Mate of mines rear brake on his Beta EVO has very little travel and is quite stiff. Any idea what would cause this? Would simply bleeding it sort it, or maybe a rebuild kit?
pistonbroke
Take off the brake lever and make sure the needle roller bearing that it mounts on hasn't seized. That happened to mine . I managed to save replacement by soaking in WD40 and then re-greasing. Hope this helps. Phil

guys
Could be that there's to much dirt built up around the pistons and their seal in the calliper so the piston doesn't move much anymore. It's also possible that the master cilinder is seized for the same reason. Carefully dismantel and clean all the parts, don't forget the grooves where the seals sit in. Use a rebuild kit when necessary.
0007
Does the brake work properly? If it requires bleeding it would have air in it and it would be spongy If it needed rebuild it would be leeking or would need to be pumped at least a couple times to make pressure If it's just short travel and has powerful braking then it's not faulty it just needs adjustment or like the guys mentioned clean and lube the pivot
sawtooth
It appears that the previous owner had for some reason added a sprung washer to the pivot assembly which was causing it to bind up. All sorted now.
