eviljim
So I would like to buy a trials bike, I am using my brothers at the moment or more sharing it to be more accurate. I don't have a lot of money, in fact I am having to sell stuff to justify it. I hope to get to a £1000. I would like a 250, I don't mind to much what brand. What are the ones to go for. I know that's a little broad a question, so let me try and ask some more narrow. With the beta rev 3, we're there are major updates, ie what year should I aim for 2003 or newer? The early 2000 seem to have upside down forks should they be avoided? I am aware of the water pump / case issue. With gas gas last aluminium frame was there any issues with first year of production? Was that 2003? I feel the model before is a little old, if that a daft theory? I have heard the early sherco have a power delivery they is all at the top end of the rev range is this true if so when did this change? I know it's a bit of a crap question, I am just trying to get as much info as possible, while I'm trying to generate the money.
nelly1
have you considered a 315 montesa great reliable bike and as long as you look after it you should get your money back
eviljim
Yes I have, they tend to go for premium though, if one came up for the right price I would have a look. All though they look a little agricultural in my opinion.
ourian
If you haven't got the cash now, my advice is to wait until the winter, you'll get a lot more bike for your cash and it'll give you more time to save up. However I know what it's like having your mind set on something and wanting it now. As for the older bikes, they are more than capable machines and will do far more than you can at this stage, now and again an absolute corker comes up for sale, very little use and well maintained but be prepared to travel for it. Bike prices are at a premium this time of year and if your budget is £1000 you'll be lucky to get a decent bike under 12 years old for that money

smalley250
Any time is a good time to buy unless your looking at newer bikes. Aviod the first release models ie GasGas txt and Sherco etc. I would with your buget go for Montesa 315r or Beta Rev3 both robust bikes. Sherco engines dont seem to last well never hear a few year old ones sounding nice. Gas Gas TXT Pro were flimsly until 2005 onwards, Scorpa seem fragile ive seen tanks holed n engine casings plus one engine break in halve. I think you should be able to get 2002 -2004 for around £1000. Naturally check as much as you can as it could end up being costly so called bargin. eviljim
Good info, thanks all. I am leaning towards a rev 3 they seem to be going for less than there is one on ebay at £800 that has been resisted 3 times. Although I guess that could be a bad sign. I needs to sell some stuff. Any one want a hang glider?
