doc
Does anyone have any tips on how to remove the bottom bearing off the steering stem when it is siezed o n? Other than the big hammer and chisel idea! Hello ao7971, Tried a "cold spray " as used for computers? A radical way if you have to replace it: use arc welding: 2 or 4 dots where the balls run will make the steel retract. It does work, I've done it. I hope this will help you . scorpa3
The idea of putting a couple of small weld runs does work very well. If nothing else, the heat makes the parent metal go brittle and crack easier when tapped. Although usually the heat from the weld is enough to make the outer race go loose. charliechitlins
Welding will shrink a race and is good if the race is stuck in the neck. I think the OP (I learned that one not long ago ) has a bearing stuck on his stem. I get them warm and go at them with a hammer and a drift pin, working opposite sides evenly. drowned rat
I just grind a notch in the middle of the track just deep enough to get a chisel in and then just tap it off. Once it has started to move you can get underneath to keep it coming off even.
